ROCK ENGINE is the premiere procedural landscape generator for MAXON Cinema 4D. Built with a state-of-the-art erosion simulation engine, ROCK ENGINE produces incredibly realistic terrains that are otherwise impossible to create within the Cinema 4D workflow. Engineered with the artist in mind, ROCK ENGINE provides ease of use along with accurate control to create the dream landscape that artists often seek.

ROCK ENGINE is a tool for creating natural vistas, including mountains, hills, rivers and lakes. Terrains area created procedurally by applying simulation algorithms over base maps. Users can select from several simulation filters, including erosion, terracing, mesas, snow generation and many more. ROCK ENGINE offers total control through the use of masking, enabling the user to add intricate detail where needed.

ROCK ENGINE runs seamlessly within the Cinema 4D environment, conforming to its familiar user experience.

Erosion Simulation

Simulate natural terrain evolution over time with a set of flexible erosion controls, including fluvial (hydraulic) and thermal erosion, using either manual settings or easy-to-use presets

Procedural Texture Creation

Create natural looking textures that conform to the geological properties of the terrain, like water flow, slopes and direction field. Individual channels can be filled with color, gradients or even Cinema 4D shaders

Forester Integration

Export low resolution copies of the terrain to be used with Forester scattering, respecting tree distribution properties, water map flow, lakes and roads

Multiple Map Export

Export multiple map types, to be used inside Cinema 4D or third party applications. Map types include Height, Water Flow, Normals, Cavities, Tree Distribution, Lakes, Roads and several more…

Lake and River Creation

Create procedural lakes, and spline based rivers within the ROCK ENGINE terrain, subject them to the effects of erosion and weathering, and visualize them with special color channels.

Snow Simulation

Simulate realistic snow running down the slopes of mountains, making use of the advanced fluvial algorithm that ROCK ENGINE provides

 

Road on Terrain Creation

Carve spline based Roads on terrain using intuitive road generation tools. Roads paths can then be colored with road-specific channels on the terrain texture map

Road mesh geometry

Create road geometry with the ROCK ENGINE ROAD object, and project these roads on the terrain. Different roads can be connected with junctions for a seamless road mesh

Multi-threaded filters

Most ROCK ENGINE filters are calculated with parallel processing on the CPU, making full use of all CPU cores on the user’s machine

 

ROCK ENGINE System Requirements and Render Engine Compatibility

ROCK ENGINE runs on all editions of Cinema 4D R20 and above, including Prime, Visualize, Broadcast and Studio.

ROCK ENGINE is compatible the Standard and Physical Cinema 4D render engines, along with the following third party Cinema 4D renderers: Octane , Redshift, Arnold and Corona.
